Balancing on the beam

We are learning how to balance on a beam in Gymnastics. We have to carefully climb on the beam and stand up. We have to  put our aeroplanes arms out to help us balance. We then have to walk all the way to the other side. Sometimes we have to turn and go back too. It can be scary sometimes because the beam wobbles when we walk on it. We are all getting better at balancing on the beam!

Using other punctuation

I am learning when to use other punctuation
e.g. commaexclamation markquestion markapostrophe

Guess what my dream is? To plant. I the holidays I want to plant. It's my dream. We have the seeds. We have different seeds. We have sunflower seeds. We have different flowers. I love planting!

I am most proud of being able to use question marks, apostrophes and exclamation marks. I need to practise using the other ones too!

Adding details

I am learning to add some details to my writing.

Lolly the Whale

In the deep blue sea Lolly woke up in the morning. She got some food out of the fridge. After Lolly went to the hospital because Lolly had a baby whale. In the afternoon the baby whale came out of the hospital. Lolly called her baby whale Polly. They lived happily ever after.

I like trying to add detail to my story. It is easy for me because I have a good imagination.

Root Words

I think it was a bit tricky to match the root words and their endings. I know I got a couple mixed up.

St John Visit

Mac from St John came to talk to the children at Elm Park School about safety and first Aid. He brought his mini ambulance Amby along with him. Mac taught Room 11 about who to call when there is an emergency. We looked at different pictures and had to decide if we needed to call for the police, the firemen or an ambulance. We had actions that we had to do to show Mac that we knew who to call!

Shape Monster

I am learning to name and describe plane shapes.

We are learning about Geometry in Room 11. We are learning to name plane shapes and to say how many sides and corners the shape has. We created shape monsters and wrote a description about them.

I liked colouring in my shape monster. It was easy to remember how many corners and sides the circle shape monster had!

Making ten to add

I am learning to split numbers to make ten to help me add.

Sometimes it is confusing. I need to practise a little bit more.

Youthtown

Room 11 has been going to Youthtown this term. We have been learning how to throw a ball at a target. We learned that you need to have your one arm in an L shape ready to throw the ball. The other arm needs to be pointing at the target. Then we have to do a power throw and try to hit the target. Sometimes we hit the cones and sometimes the ball goes in a different direction.

Retelling the main events

The Butterflies reading group is learning to retell the main events in the story.

I liked retelling the story. I think it is easy because I read the book first.

Self-Portrait

I have been learning how to draw my self-portrait. First Mrs Scott came to show us how to sketch our face. We sketched our face shape first. Then we drew our guidelines to help us remember where our eyes, nose, mouth and ears went. We practised using a whispering pencil and a shouting pencil. Our first sketch looked a bit funny so we tried again. This time we used a photo of us to help us. We had to start all over again! Miss Radue then helped us rub out all the whispering pencil guidelines and photocopied our sketches so they were bigger. We had to go around our sketch with vivid and then we used pastel to colour in our self-portraits. It was hard work but we had a lot of fun!
